Oda al Río, 2018

Oda al Río (2018) is a large-scale video sculpture dedicated to the Medellín River, historically a central visual and communal reference in the valley landscape. Once a gathering and recreational space, the river has gradually become the primary recipient of the metropolitan area's wastewater, now resembling an open-air sewer. Composed of 32 CRT televisions arranged in columns, each screen displays fragmented video footage capturing the river from its source to its endpoint. Structured into vertical segments, the artwork represents various points along the river, immersing viewers in its changing landscapes. A soundscape made from field recordings of natural and urban environments complements the visuals, prompting reflection on ecological transformation, urbanization, and our shifting relationship with the river. This installation seeks to generate renewed meaning for a body of water from which society continually distances itself.
